Illustrative Spaceibles archive and flight recorder concept

Illustrative device concept. Not a flight-qualified product.

A practical first version

Start with an operator-approved storage and flight recorder module. A proprietary device would require its own engineering, qualification and operator acceptance. The proposed architecture combines a content manifest, secure storage, selected sensors and verifiable records.

Measurements and dependencies

InformationProposed source
Acceleration, vibration, rotationQualified onboard motion sensors
Internal temperature and pressureLocal sensors; describe conditions at the device
Altitude, direction, speed, trajectoryApproved navigation receiver or operator telemetry
Launch, duration, returnSynchronized clocks and defined operator events; return only when applicable
Radio-frequency or radiation measurementsOptional mission-specific approved instruments

Integration comes first

Agree the exact booster, stage, spacecraft or capsule; mass, mounting, power, thermal and vibration limits; data rights; and recovery or downlink. A booster landing does not mean its payload returned.
